DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nThis study addresses the challenge of teaching theore
tical prosody concepts (i.e.\, studies about stress\,\nrhythm\, intonation
\, voice quality\, and other suprasegmental aspects of human pattern of pr
onunciation)\nin undergraduate courses. Our main aim was to develop a dida
ctic approach to promote active and\nreflective learning about prosody and
its suprasegmental characteristics. We hypothesize that creating an\nacad
emic podcast can serve as an effective scholarly research tool for communi
ty development and\nfostering an inclusive educational environment in phon
etics and phonology. For Methodology\, a set of\ndidactic activities was d
esigned to guide students in recording podcast episodes. The theoretical\n
framework employed was the Collaborative Online International Learning (CO
IL) methodological\napproach. A total of 58 undergraduate students from Ph
onetics and Phonology courses at the State\nUniversity of Paraíba (UEPB)
and São Paulo State University (UNESP) were grouped. Nine student\ngroups
performed seven weeks of academic exchange activities. They collaborative
ly addressed topics on\nthe phonetic- phonological characteristics of Braz
ilian Portuguese regional varieties (Paraíba and São\nPaulo inland) and
their potential effects on foreign language production/perception. Insight
 s were\nsummarized into a script\, and two students from each cross-univer
sity group recorded an episode\, which\nwas subsequently edited and publis
hed. Acoustic processing was based on the podcast samples produced\nby the
students from both Paraíba and São Paulo. It involved forced-alignment
 via Munich Automatic\nSegmentation (MAUS)\, manual correction\, re-alignme
 nt into prosodic-level units\, and automatic feature\nextraction using a P
raat script. Statistical analysis was carried out through Mann- Whitney U
test to\ncompare the independent effect of each dialectical group on the p
rosodic-acoustic features. Results\nrevealed that features of speech\, suc
 h as pause duration\, f0 centrality\, variability and dynamics\, as well a
s\nlong-term spectral intensity showed significant differences between the
se dialects. This academic\npodcasting experience enabled us to teach the
relevance of studying prosody\, and this was positively\nevaluated by the
participating students. The project also enabled students to identify with
their own\nlinguistic diversity\, including regional accents expressed th
rough prosodic features\, by hearing their own\nand others’ voices. The
findings support that the academic podcast project can be successfully\nim
plemented as a scholarly research tool.\n\nKeywords: Prosody. Academic pod
